Your child’s first visit to the eye clinic can take over 1 hour. They may see one or two clinicians on the day of the appointment.
They will have their vision checked. We will use lights and lenses to assess if your child needs glasses. If they wear glasses please bring them to the appointment.
Most children will need to have their pupils dilated with a drop into both eyes. This feels like water into the eye and causes minimal discomfort. It will take 30 minutes for the drops to work.
Dilating drops can make the vision blurred and the eyes sensitive to light. Most children tolerate it well. The drops can last anywhere from 12 hours to 24 hours.
